What Is Passive Assisted Stretching?
In 2017, just before training in Hatha Yoga, I learned the Kika Method passive-assisted stretch series at a studio where I worked in NYC. Being a passionate practitioner of stretching and yoga at the time, when I saw this job posting I thought, “this is the PERFECT job for me!” Teaching people how to stretch and breathe was wonderful and empowering- I didn't realize it wasn't common knowledge how important the breath is!
This is a full body stretch series where I apply pressure in postures coordinated with your breath, though we can stay with and emphasize any areas that need more attention. You, the receiver, is passively enjoying for much of it.
I love this method because it is gentle yet deep, and I place particular emphasis on the breath as the gatekeeper that allows us to go deeper without over-stressing the body. I am attuned to your bodys limits and encourage enough communication as necessary to achieve the best stretch for you.
Being a Hakomi practitioner as well, I also welcome staying with and processing any emotions that may come up as we do this work. It can be either a strictly physical stretching experience, or could morph into a Hakomi session- we can move in whatever direction you desire. Come receive attuned presence and touch, and leave feeling relaxed, supple and more aligned.
Sessions are 45 minutes
